Developments:
A German epidemiologist arrived here for a 2-year stint last week. He was sent by the German governmental body CIM (Centre for International Migration). CIM was set up in the 1960s to help people from the developing world who had completed their studies in Germany and now planned to return to their countries. Today, however, none of the students want to go back, so CIM sends Germans instead. Over 80 per cent of CIM's funds now go to Germans and other Europeans attempting to plug the hole left by the brain drain.
